CAST is a young person centred project and has an excellent track record, built since 2003, for nurturing students. Many of our students enjoy the fact that much of the provision takes place outdoors with a very positive sensory environment. Five of 13 staff have experience of attending CAST, including two Directors. All our learning takes place in a relaxed and calm environment and we have many learners who feel CAST is a place where they are respected, feel at home and enjoy learning. There are three groups each day at CAST carrying out different practical projects which gives scope for a student to work in a small group with other students they feel comfortable with. This also makes it easier to provide differentiation in learning styles and levels.
Land based studies and activities with elements of construction and horticulture are delivered to support the BTEC and AIM qualifications which are carried out within Newstead Abbey Park and Newstead and Annesley Country Park.
