What’s on offer?
At Children’s Sensory Therapy Alternative Education Provision (AEP), we support academically able children aged 11–16 who have struggled in mainstream settings but are motivated to learn. Our programme is designed for children who need a personalised and flexible approach to education, delivered in a nurturing one-to-one environment.
We offer a 12-week programme with three hours per week of individualised support (longer if required). Each child receives tailored teaching from a qualified English teacher, alongside Occupational Therapy sessions that support emotional regulation, sensory processing, and the development of functional life skills. This holistic approach ensures that both academic and personal growth are nurtured.
Our curriculum is customised to each child’s strengths and interests, while also addressing any social, emotional or sensory needs. We are particularly well-suited to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), severe anxiety, or those with SEND/SEMH needs who may be awaiting or in transition with an EHCP.
This provision is ideal for children needing additional therapeutic support and those who would benefit from a smaller, quieter setting to rebuild confidence before re-entering larger educational environments. Our calm, compassionate and responsive space ensures every child feels safe, understood, and empowered to succeed.
Academic qualifications:
Currently, our educational provision focuses on English, with plans to expand into other subject areas over time. CST AEP will only accept students who are on roll at a school. This ensures that responsibility for Key Stage 4 (KS4) exam entries remains with the school, and that Key Stage 3 (KS3) learners remain focused on reintegration into a school setting in preparation for KS4. Our role is to provide a supportive, therapeutic learning space that complements school responsibilities while helping students re-engage with education.
SEND provision:
What makes our provision truly unique is the integration of therapeutic support and qualified teaching, all delivered by a team with a deep understanding of additional needs. At Children’s Sensory Therapy AEP, we specialise in creating a calm, supportive environment where education and therapy go hand in hand. Our approach combines high-quality, one-to-one teaching from experienced staff who are skilled in supporting children with Autism, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and developmental trauma. Alongside this, we offer specialist Occupational Therapy sessions that help children regulate their emotions, manage sensory processing challenges, and develop essential functional skills. Our team understands the complexities these children face, and we tailor every aspect of their learning and therapeutic support accordingly. This combination allows us to meet each child exactly where they are, providing them with the safety, trust, and encouragement they need to thrive; both in their education and wider development.
Therapeutic/nurture/wellbeing support:
At Children’s Sensory Therapy AEP, our specialism lies in offering a truly therapeutic learning environment that meets the whole child; not just their academic profile. We integrate high-quality teaching with therapeutic, wellbeing and nurture-based support to create a safe and compassionate space where children feel understood, accepted and supported.
Alongside one-to-one teaching from a qualified teacher, we provide Occupational Therapy sessions that focus on emotional regulation, sensory processing, and functional life skills. Our therapeutic approach is rooted in a deep understanding of how early experiences and neurodiversity can impact a child’s ability to learn and engage.
In addition to formal therapy, we embed wellbeing and nurture throughout the day; through our calm, predictable environment, relational approach, and emotionally attuned staff. We prioritise building trusting relationships, supporting children’s self-esteem, and helping them develop resilience at a pace that feels manageable. Our provision offers a much-needed alternative for children who are ready to re-engage with learning but require a highly personalised and therapeutic pathway to do so successfully.
